Fairwater Connections

In a world where it is increasingly easy to get isolated, Fairwater Connections is a group deciding to build friendships and support between members and within the local community here in Fairwater.
We want to develop and increase our connections with people who are interested in working out how to consciously look out for each other in a manageable way.
We believe it is possible to live healthy, interesting and satisfying lives that, at the same time, use less of the earth’s resources.
Through activities that are both practical and enjoyable, we can develop trust and friendships that we can rely on, offer and receive help when needed and expand the options for fun.

Recently we have :
- Set up a self-help gardening group. Here is the FB page www.facebook.com/groups/946077875465109/
- an expanding group of Fairwater residents of different ages who meet to help each other design and develop our front and back gardens. We swap plants as well as physical labour with tea and cake included! We share information through our Facebook page, and organise trips to other gardens for inspiration.
- We decided we wanted to be part of looking after the communal spaces in Fairwater. We regularly take part in the monthly litter pick in the Dell (Fairwater Park) and have also carried out our own litter picks in other parts of Fairwater.
- Every Thursday evening we eat together in each other’s homes, taking turns to cook. Over the last few months about 20 people have joined us for some food and chat at different times. Lottery Funding ...... we are delighted to announce
In May 2016 we heard that we had been successful in gaining Lottery Funding.
Our project will deliver a series of health and well-being events in Fairwater to address issues of isolation that can be a problem for the large numbers of older people in the ward. We will link with the local high schools and involve young people to help run these events.
